Modernization of the regional information and computer network core
Completion of modernizing the core of regional information and computer network at Perm Scientific Center at the Urals Department of the Russian Academy of Science.
The core of regional information and computer network represents 3 major nodes located on the central sites of Rostelecom OJSC and Perrm Scientific Center connected by fiber optical communication lines (FOCL). Its principal objective is high-speed switch of corporate networks of scientific and educational institutions of Perm.
The modernization of the regional information and computer network core was aimed at satisfying the demands of the institutes making part of Perm Scientific Center, raising the reliability and speed of information exchange, integration and safety of information service functioning, support of highly productive computations.
During the project the specialists of Open Technologies and telecommunication and IT laboratory at the Institute of Flow Mechanics at Urals Department of the Russian Academy of Science (RAS UD IFM) researched the existing infrastructure of the customer, designed the network core and commissioned it.
The modernization of the core required a highly productive equipment: Cisco 7604 router Sup720-3B guiding module, providing for 720Gbit/s productivity of package hardware switching and performing the aggregation of paca аппаратной коммутации пакетов GigbitEthernet channels for switching local networks of the institutes of Perm Scientific Center with the existing academic fiber optical network.
The project provided for the necessary platform of modern corporate services like telephone network, video conference call, distant education, etc.
According to Andrey Sozykin, technical director of Open Technologies, "the implementation of the project will allow academic institutes passing to a modern, brand new level of access to the existing internal information and computer resources and provide a platform for new services".
"The modernization of the regional information and computer network core will create a high-speed and reliable access of the institutes of Perm Scientific Center to corporate information services and the Internet обеспечит and will provide for future successful integration of GLORIAD, a Web for transfer of large amount of scientific information, GEANT, the European scientific cand educational network, GRID, geographically distributed infrastructure uniting numerous resources of various type", pointed out Anatoly Rogovoi, deputy director on science at RAS UD IFM.
